November 22/23 2000 (Tinton Falls)
[NOTE: The seeing was poor tonight due to wind. Setup was focuser/f/3.3 reducer/camera. Temp about 20 degrees. Tonight the images were all taken WITHOUT the usual IR blocking filter. A new set of flats were taken, as the camera WAS inserted all the way into the visual back. -GW]
NGC80/83/91, galaxies in Andromeda. Here is a map of the four major galaxies in this image. NGC80 is magnitude 12.1, dimensions 3'.0 x 2'.0, surface brightness 13.4 mag/sq arcmin. NGC83 is magnitude 12.5, dimensions 1'.3 x 1'.2, surface brightness 13.5 mag/sq arcmin. NGC91 (a particularly pretty little spiral galaxy!) is magnitude 13.7, dimensions 2'.4 x 0'.9, surface brightness 13.8 mag/sq arcmin. PGC1396 is magnitude 15.7, dimensions 30" x 11". Note that there are several other small galaxies in this field, all too faint to be identified using the SkyMap Pro 6.0 software. This effort used the f/3.3 focal reducer, but no IR blocking filter. The frames were shot between 08:01 and 08:51 p.m. the evening of the 22nd. The composite was made from 28 exposures for a total integration time of 28 minutes. All images were processed in AstroArt with dark frame subtraction and flat frames, then compositing. The image was moved into MaxIm for a final contrast stretch.
