Observation Log - October 16, 2001 - Tinton Falls, NJ

Quite a nice night tonight, with no moon to interfere. Temperature at dawn was 46F. Had some dew during the night, but the dew shield plus the Kendrick heater kept it at bay. Configuration was Crayford/f3.3 reducer/T- adapter/MX516 camera with no filters. The camera was mounted upside-down. I took darks and flats at dawn.

This is NGC6749, a globular cluster in Aquila, magnitude 11.1, diameter is 6'.3. This image was composited from 31 one-minute exposures for a total integration time of 31 minutes. The images were taken between 7:52 and 8:35 p.m. the evening of October 15, 2001. The image was calibrated and aligned in MaxIm, using a sum composite. The resulting composite image was rotated 180 degrees, flattened, and then processed with a Development filter (Kernel, low-pass) and finished with a contrast stretch. Next up is NGC7001, a galaxy in Aquarius, magnitude 12.9, dimensions are 1'.4 x 1'.1, and the surface brightness is 13.9 mags/sq arcmin. This image was composited from 85 one-minute exposures for a total integration time of 85 minutes. The images were taken between 8:46 and 10:38 p.m. the evening of October 15, 2001. The image was calibrated and aligned in MaxIm, using a sum composite. The resulting composite image was rotated 180 degrees, flattened, and then processed with a Development filter (FFT, low-pass, hard) and finished with a contrast stretch. This image was composited from 21 one- minute exposures for a total integration time of 21 minutes. The images were taken between 10:41 and 11:05 p.m. the evening of October 15, 2001. The image was calibrated and aligned in MaxIm, using a sum composite.
