M27, the Dumbbell Nebula in Vulpecula, a planetary nebula, magnitude 7.6, dimensions 8'.0 x 4'.7, distance is 815 light years. Images were taken using the f/6.3 focal reducer. The image above was used as the Luminance channel in this new LRGB composite. The Luminance channel was taken on the 12", and is a composite of 25 images totaling 27 minutes. Images were taken between 8:51 and 09:50 p.m. the evening of the 14th. The red, green and blue channels were taken from the image made of M27 back in August on the 10". The luminance channel was processed with AstroArt, for dark frame, flats and compositing. That image was moved into MaxIm for further processing with a Digital Development (FFT, low-pass, mild) filter. The four composites were color combined and aligned into a color composite. This image was then color smoothed and contrast stretched. Joe Makoviecki sat in during the integration on the Luminance channel.
