[NOTE: There were clouds during the session, temperature in the 40's but no dew. Took twilight flats before the session started. Configuration on the 12" Meade LX200: Crayford focuser/f3.3 reducer/1.25" visual back/MX516 camera, and no IR nor deep sky filter. -GW]
Here is NGC4111, a galaxy in Canes Venatici, magnitude 10.7, 4'.3 x 0'.8, surface brightness 9.3 mag/sq arcmin, distance is 37 million light years. Below and to the right is NGC4109, mag 13.9, 36" x 30", sb 14.1. And at the bottom center of the frame is PCG38439, mag 17.0, 48" x 38". This is a 59-minute integration, taken between 9:16 and 10:31 pm, the evening of May 13, 2001. The images were calibrated in MaxIm with darks, bias frames and flats. Then the images were combined, and processed with a Digital Development filter (FFT, low-pass, hard), and finally a contrast stretch.
Here is NGC4013, a galaxy in Ursa Major, magnitude 11.2, 5'.1 x 1'.1, surface brightness 13.5 mag/sq arcmin, and distance is 33 million light years. Note the interesting foreground star near the core of the galaxy. This image is a 43-minute integration, taken between 10:34 and 11:48 pm, the evening of May 13, 2001. The images were calibrated in MaxIm with darks, bias frames and flats. Then the images were combined, and processed with a Digital Development filter (FFT, low-pass, medium), and finally a contrast stretch.
Next is NGC5750, a galaxy in Virgo, magnitude 11.6, 3'.0 x 1'.7, surface brightness 12.6 mag/sq arcmin, and distance is 87 million light years. This image is a 36-minute integration, taken between 11:55 and 1:25 am, the morning of May 14, 2001. This image was much bothered with passing clouds. I actually used only 36 of 73 frames taken. The images were calibrated in MaxIm with darks, bias frames and flats. Then the images were combined, and processed with a Digital Development filter (FFT, low-pass, hard), and finally a contrast stretch.
This is NGC6703, a galaxy in Lyra, magnitude 11.3, size 2'.3, surface brightness 11.9 mag/sq arcmin, and distance is 110 million light years. This image is a 69-minute integration, taken between 2:18 and 3:48 am, the mornning of May 14, 2001. The images were calibrated in MaxIm with darks, bias frames and flats. Then the images were combined, and processed with a Digital Development filter (Kernel, low-pass), and finally a contrast stretch.
This is NGC7048, a planetary nebula in Cygnus, magnitude 11.0, size 1'.0 x 0'.8, distance is 3,900 light years. The central star is given variously as mag 18 to 19. This image is a 28-minute integration, taken between 4:10 and 4:44 am, the mornning of May 14, 2001. The images were calibrated in MaxIm with darks, bias frames and flats. Then the images were combined, and processed with a Digital Development filter (Kernel, low-pass), and finally a contrast stretch.
