[NOTE: The seeing was pretty good tonight, despite the cold (27 -> 14 degrees F), and the snow cover on the ground. Setup on the 12" Meade LX200 was the Crayford focuser/f3.3 reducer/1.25" visual back/MX516 camera. Tonight the images were all taken WITHOUT the IR blocking filter. I did a set of flats before starting the session. The dew heater kept the frost at bay tonight. -GW]

NGC4217, a galaxy in Canes Venatici, magnitude 11.2, dimensions 5'.5 x 2'.6, surface brightness is 13.6 mag/sq arcmin, and a distance of 46 million light years. The little galaxy in the bottom left corner is NGC4226, mag 11.2, 1'.1 x 0'.5, s.b. 14.1. The frames were shot between 5:45 and 6:18 a.m. the morning of January 22. This composite was made from 27 exposures for a total integration time of 27 minutes. All images were processed in AstroArt with darks, flats and flat-darks, then aligned and composited. Then I moved the image into MaxIm. Once there, I applied a Digital Development filter (kernel, low-pass), an unsharp mask (FFT, low-pass, hard) and the image was finished with a contrast stretch.
